Dear all,
We are deeply saddened to let you know, that Barb Cargill, one of the founding Mothers of IFS passed away in late March. Barb was a Lead Trainer for many years, starting in the early 2000’s and was a beloved teacher, mentor and friend to many in the IFS community.
Kay Gardner shared the following about Barb.
"Barbara was my therapist at 19 years old. She helped me to find my way to my body, my feelings, my emotions and helped me discover who I truly was. Barbara was a true devotee to the divine feminine and she helped me discover that I also was a devotee. She became my friend, my colleague in both Hakomi and IFS. She was my companion and my dear teacher. Goddess speed Barbara.”
Dick Schwartz added:
"Barb was one of the wonderful members of the Hakomi community that were drawn to IFS during that early period when I was spending a lot of time in that group. It was clear from the start that she had a powerful, charismatic presence and she brought a wide range of talents to our community, including dance and movement as well as a deep feminine spirituality. She taught me the importance of somatic embodiment and even got me to do the Hula at times. She became one of our most valued lead trainers and inspired any number of IFS students and she also was the therapist’s therapist— working with many leaders in our community.
Many years ago she asked if I’d like to co-lead workshops with her at a place called Maya Tulum which she had visited. We did that for 23 years and many of my fondest memories are from those deeply healing retreats in that beautiful setting. There I got to know Barb, and her lovely husband Richard, very well and came to love them both. She was one of a kind and I’m so grateful to her for what she brought to me and to the IFS world.”
Our sincere condolences to those of you in the community who knew and loved Barb as well as to her family. We honor your grief and memories and are holding space in our hearts for your sorrow at Barb’s passing.
