Inclusive Programs for Mental Health Equity & Access
“We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter their colour.” – Maya Angelou
The IFS model teaches us that inclusion begins internally and when we begin to welcome our parts, we become more capable of welcoming others. The mission of IFS Institute’s Community Access Programs (CAP) is to welcome others by expanding access to high-quality IFS programming for culturally diverse, underserved, and underrepresented communities. By partnering with mission-aligned organizations, CAP reduces barriers to mental health equity and creates inclusive, affirming learning environments.
What started as a single partnership has grown into a network of impactful collaborations with organizations that have made a significant difference in their communities. Through CAP, these organizations now have the opportunity to engage in IFS training programs and Introductory Workshops - opportunities that might not have been available to them without these intentionally created spaces.
One of the organizations IFS Institute has partnered with is the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP), a truly impactful collaboration (and one whose broader community impact is especially important to highlight, given their dual role as a service provider and training institute).
ICP is committed to providing affordable, high-quality mental health care to underserved and underrepresented communities, including communities of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those seeking gender-affirming care. Each year, they serve more than 600 patients across their treatment divisions, offering a wide range of specialized services at intentionally low fees - with a median of $50 per session and a minimum of $45, further reduced as needed. They also accept a range of insurance plans, including some Medicaid, to keep services accessible.
In addition to direct services, ICP trains over 100 clinicians annually, preparing the next generation to bring this work into the broader community. They actively recruit and support trainees from diverse racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds, awarding more than $80,000 in equity scholarships and financial aid in 2025 alone. These clinicians carry their skills back into their communities, expanding access to inclusive care.
Guided by leadership with deep expertise in equity and inclusion, ICP remains steadfast in its mission to make mental health treatment and training accessible to all, while fostering clinical excellence, inclusivity, and equity in the field of psychotherapy.
ICP began their first Level 1 training program with IFSI in 2025 and will begin another Level 1training program in 2026. One of the ICP Leaders expressed, “IFS is a powerful modality; as a clinician and as a person, I feel it is a gift to the world”!
We too view the IFS model as a gift that we hope continues to benefit all who can embrace it, with CAP serving as the pathway that provides access to this transformative model.
