This is a complimentary directory provided by the IFS Institute that features those who have opted into sharing their information and have completed at minimum an IFS Level 1 Training.

Many types of professionals study IFS at the Institute and we do not limit professionals in this directory to those with mental health backgrounds. If you are looking for a licensed therapist, or someone who has training in mental health, you should confirm their credentials when you first contact them.

Individuals listed operate independently and are not affiliated with the IFS Institute.

IFS Directory

While navigating this directory you may find the following terms and definitions helpful:

Levels of Learning: The IFS Institute offers three levels of training – Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. The higher the level of training, the more training the person has achieved. To achieve Level 3 for example, the professional would need to have attended a Level 1, one or more Level 2 programs and a Level 3 program.

Certification: Certification is a separate advanced process in which individuals can demonstrate their competence in the IFS method. Those Certified in IFS are at minimum IFS Level 1 Trained. Learn more about the steps individuals take to become IFS Certified here.

IFS Certified Therapist is a person who has a master's degree or higher in a Human Services Field and who holds a license or certification for clinical practice in counseling or psychotherapy (or sanctioned international title). Common clinical licenses include LCSW, LMFT, LPC, PhD, psychologist, etc.
IFS Certified Practitioners are not licensed mental health therapists. Practitioners hold many different types of educational backgrounds and and work experience. Practitioners apply the IFS method within the specific scope of practice for their field of expertise.

Approved IFS Clinical Consultants: For individuals seeking IFS consultation services - Approved IFS Clinical Consultants are Certified IFS Therapists with a minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in practicing IFS after completion of a Level 1 training and have been recommended as an Approved IFS Clinical Consultant by a Lead Trainer.
