While navigating this directory you may find the following terms and definitions helpful:

Levels of Learning: The IFS Institute offers three levels of training – Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. The higher the level of training, the more training the person has achieved. To achieve Level 3 for example, the professional would need to have attended a Level 1, one or more Level 2 programs and a Level 3 program.

Certification: Certification is a separate advanced process in which individuals can demonstrate their competence in the IFS method. Those Certified in IFS are at minimum IFS Level 1 Trained. Learn more about the steps individuals take to become IFS Certified here.

IFS Certified Therapists are those individuals who have completed the IFS Certification process and have declared to us that they hold the required credentials as mental health professionals to legally practice psychotherapy in the geography in which they are licensed or registered. Any other person having completed the Certification process will be categorized as an IFS Certified Practitioner.

Approved IFS Clinical Consultants: For individuals seeking IFS consultation services ‐ Approved IFS Clinical Consultants are Certified IFS Therapists with a minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in practicing IFS after completion of a Level 1 training and have been recommended as an Approved IFS Clinical Consultant by a Lead Trainer.
